Company History

In 1993 one of the Home Counties most respected independent opticians moved from his humble corner shop practice into new a new, spacious double fronted property in the town centre. This enabled him to employ a full time Dispensing Optician for the first time in quality surroundings with an enviable choice of frames and services.

Experience had taught him that the weak link would be the glazing laboratory and its suppliers. So, Greyhound Optical was born, set up as an independent company for accounting reasons in the first instance, this proved to be a wise decision as it has enabled Greyhound to expand from its humble beginnings.

In 1993 we started with a single room laboratory upstairs, above the practice and sandwiched between the two testing rooms. That was fine, there was a staff of one with one glazing machine and one computer. Slowly but surely we ran out of space as our staffing level increased and we invested in further equipment.

So we moved to new premises in 1997 and with a blank sheet of paper, qualifications and 4 years experience we where able to design and put together our ideal working space.

Since then we have reinvested in new equipment and technologies so that we can handle whatever comes our way. Our glazing systems are integrated to give us the best possible flexibility and quality whilst remaining fully independent so that work continues should there be a breakdown. This is an important factor for us, and potentially you, as it means that we are always able to maintain production.
